Salford City Council delegation visits University campus
We were pleased to welcome a delegation of Councillors from Salford City Council to look around our campus on Friday.
We showed them some of our main buildings and new developments which are benefitting our students, colleagues and our local community. At the University of Salford we are passionate about creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to gain the right qualifications which will help them to pursue successful, fulfilling careers.
That is why we offer training, development and learning opportunities from traditional degrees to technical vocational qualifications and apprenticeships.
The University is one of the biggest providers of healthcare, wellness and sports degrees in the North of England, so we visited the site of our new Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre as well as our NHS standard teaching facilities.
They also looked around Energy House 2.0 and the Acoustics Lab, under construction on the Frederick Road district of our campus, where we conduct research and consultancy services for a number of clients.
Councillor Daryl Stone-Shaw was pleased to see the cutting-edge research taking place here: “The campus is at the forefront in a lot of industries. Energy House 2.0 is carrying out world-leading research and it’s amazing to see.”
Councillor Michele Barnes, who worked at the University for 38 years commented: “I have seen many changes over this time, and I am so impressed how far we have come building our very own super health clinic “Thrive” where students will be doing in-house placements giving them the opportunity to work with the local community and others with state of the art equipment and technology.”
Councillor Wilson Nkurunziza added: “As an alumni I think this university is doing fantastic stuff, particularly in the fields of practice-based learning. When students leave university they can struggle to find that experience - so it’s offered here, then when they go out there, they can be competitive on the job market, it’s fantastic.”
Councillor Leighton Medley commented: “The great thing is that when we looked at the new Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre , the fact that you’re integrating with the hospitals, you’re bringing patients here who are going to work with students. That will assist with training and it's going to help the students - not just with their medical knowledge, but also growing their knowledge of how to deal with patients, how to learn about care, how to talk to patients. It's fully integrated and that will be beneficial not just for the university, but for the community as a whole”.
